I was just thinking: is the system telling you "you have one wrong digit" really any aid in solving? You have to find the wrong digit all by yourself (no aid at all), and that takes additional time. Or you ctr-z a bit and do it again from there...
In biathlon, the athlete has to run one penalty loop for each target he misses at the shooting stand. If he is still first at the end - did he have any aid? Do they scratch an extra star into his gold medal?

As JoergWausW says, it can take a long time to find the "one wrong digit". I find it especially annoying because usually the error is in my typing, not my thinking.

It lets you solve faster, so it’s an aid in terms of directly comparing times.

Of course if you don’t care about your solve time then you can use the solving assistants to highlight contradictory digits immediately.

Maybe I did not explain it very well. I didn't use "show wrong".

After I filled in every cell without any helping tool used, I clicked "check solution". I got the message "there is one wrong digit" (usually it's just a typo as HollyBlue mentioned). The message does not tell me which cell is wrong. Then I have to spend extra time looking for my mistake. After I find the wrong digit, I replace it with the right one. Then I click "check solution" again.
My name goes to the chart, marked * for "very minor assistance" and it is disqualified for "Best time without any aid".

My point is: When I have to spend extra time to search for wrong digit(s) all by myself, then that should be penalty enough. Clicking "check solution" does not help you to find the correct solution. Maybe if you click it after each new digit you put in. But that would cost a lot of time...

No, I understood. If you are comparing times with other people then you have received an assist, since you were wrong and hadn’t solved the puzzle correctly. Therefore your time is not quite as impressive as someone who solved in a similar time WITHOUT a mistake. All the system is doing is showing that they were more accurate, and possibly faster too. In any case, there are no prizes on puzzlemix so you’re free to interpret the displayed information however you wish, and ignore the indicator that appears on the times chart. :) The system allows you one submit error before moving you to the second column of the table, which I think is a fair compromise.

Be glad you're not doing a online puzzle competition, where a single error usually scores 0 points! :)

And to put it another way, you can just ignore the distinction shown on puzzlemix if you like, and compare your time using whatever metric you like. By keep the information visible, you have the choice and freedom to decide for yourself how your time should be graded - if at all.

Key

  • A yellow/light blue highlight in the time distribution charts highlights your time, where relevant.
  • Rating scores out of 10.0 show the average difficulty rating chosen by users, where 1.0 is "Easy" and 10.0 is "Hard".
  • If a puzzle is opened more than once, including by loading from a saved position, then this is potentially a significant aid so it is listed as being completed with 'multiple sessions' for the purpose of the best time/average rating displays above.
  • Minor aid is defined as no more than one use of 'Check solution' when incomplete and/or no more than one use of 'Check solution' when wrong; and/or using highlighting aids (show repeated digits, show broken inequalities and show valid/invalid placements [slitherlink] only). Major aid is any and all other use of the solving aids except for 'show wrong'.
