5 incorrect moves is what you get if you place 16, not 17 squares in the '17' region, with a shaded area to its right?

Fitting in all 17 squares turns out to be the thing which makes this puzzle unique, if that helps.

I got down to 2 incorrect squares which turned out to be in row 6, columns 7 & 8. I had those squares marked black (column 7) and white ( column 8). The correct pattern should have been white & black. How could I have figured that out? I finally gave up to see where the mistakes were.

elo15, if you had those two squares the way you describe then the problem was that the shaded area at the bottom was not connected to the shaded area at the top. Sounds like you solved all the hard parts of the puzzle just fine though!

Sorry guys, I did it quite quickly with no mistakes, but got interrupted in the middle which wrecked my time. It really is just a matter of following the logical steps and realising that the 17 and the 10 are going to take up a lot of space. Also, SPOILER ALERT, don't assume that everything connects in the centre.

Key

  • A yellow/light blue highlight in the time distribution charts highlights your time, where relevant.
  • Rating scores out of 10.0 show the average difficulty rating chosen by users, where 1.0 is "Easy" and 10.0 is "Hard".
  • If a puzzle is opened more than once, including by loading from a saved position, then this is potentially a significant aid so it is listed as being completed with 'multiple sessions' for the purpose of the best time/average rating displays above.
  • Minor aid is defined as no more than one use of 'Check solution' when incomplete and/or no more than one use of 'Check solution' when wrong; and/or using highlighting aids (show repeated digits, show broken inequalities and show valid/invalid placements [slitherlink] only). Major aid is any and all other use of the solving aids except for 'show wrong'.
