Too easy,

no challenge felt, no satisfaction received. 1 minute of lockdown time got spent :-)

Please keep free puzzles difficult enough.

Very easy. But this kind of easy puzzles are highly recommended from time to time. Thank you, Gareth.

Hi vrsawat,

If you'd like a wider selection of puzzles you're welcome to subscribe. It's cheaper per puzzle than either a puzzle magazine or a puzzle book, and also cheaper and higher-quality than comparable app-based puzzle services. It works out at less than 1p per puzzle.

Or, put another way, you can get 322 puzzles for the price of just one medium-sized latte in Starbucks. That seems reasonable value to me.

I hope this helps!

PS And I think puzzlemix is literally unique in that there is no advertising, so even if you are playing for free you aren't forced to watch adverts or scroll past lots of flashing, moving displays. No part of the site is monetised, other than direct subscription or puzzle-set revenue.

Hey Gareth, thank you for all your great work! It's a tremendous value. I love the variety of puzzles and of difficulty levels. My faves are XV, Skyscraper, Hanjes, Hitoris, Killers and Non-Consecutives. Keep them all coming! Thanks again.

I notice it is the people who do not subscribe that complain!!! It is good to have a variety of puzzles and of grades of difficulty to meet the needs of beginners and those more experienced. You get that with subscribing:)

Thank you Gareth for the free games. I'm not paying so I can't complain and I don't have any reason to complain either. You have been kind enough to provide us with additional daily free games for the lockdown, we really appreciate that, mate.

I have edited this comment to remove certain unnecessarily confrontational elements. Please keep any discussion civil. - Gareth, Puzzlemix

@Elisabeth
"I notice it is the people who do not subscribe that complain!"

There are various reasons that people can't subscribe, and for me the reason is almost imposibility of convert and transfer small amount of money from Indian currency to international ones.

Free users wait two days for one puzzle earlier, and now getting two puzzles each day, and one of them is 1 minute worth, so that is disheartening.

Thanks.

I apologise, vsrawat, it was never my intention to imply any of what you say. I am retired and use some of my pension to subscribe. My comments were never intended to discriminate as you suggest, but more along the lines of "not looking a gift horse in the mouth". I am sorry for the unintentional upset I have caused you.

Rawat, excuse me for asking this, but maybe I misunderstand.

"and for me the reason is almost imposibility of convert and transfer small amount of money from Indian currency to international ones."

Do I understand correctly, that you cannot subscribe because the bill is too little to initiate an international money order?

About the difficulty of puzzles:
As gareth explained recently in these forums, there is a random selection process picking the puzzles. I don't think that gareth or anyone working for him is checking every day which ones are published. On special occasions he did interfere, if I remember correctly, but that was to provide a bonus. Right now there is bonus every day for everyone, but still randomized.
The randomizer is set to certain average appearances for every kind of puzzle. If you expect number 42 to appear in a weekly lottery, the probability for it is the same every time. Random drawing doesn't even mean that numer 42 is more probable to be drawn after it was not drawn for two years. It is unlikely to happen, but it is possible.

Recently we had a complaint of paying people (!) that Slitherlinks showed up too often. It is wrong to say that paying people never complain.
Before, I felt ignored for a very long time asking about the return of Hitori and Nurikabes.
Both issues are solved now. Other reasonable suggestions (like colour of X-squares, like missing Kakuros, that I personally don't miss) are still "open tickets".

At the end of the day:
- gareth runs this page
- he offers services for free, including a forum, where he even attends and posts (some times less) regularly
- he charges people for getting extra services (more puzzles)
- he decides what is free and what is not
- some decisions are made by a random selection process

The visitor of the site is free to use this page or not, and to pay or not.
I guess suggestions are always welcome. It happens that you accidentally hit a nerve of someone. I do sometimes, too. But I don't have the feeling that anybody here is using this forum to prejudice others or to talk badly about/to another on a personal level. I hope it stays that way.

One sarcastic comment at the end aimed at other websites only: If you look for similar puzzles on other web sites, you might get the very same puzzle in a more difficult variation. It is way harder there to get to the puzzle solution, because the layout of the page is worse.

Gareth, please don't invent puzzles that influence the logic, sanity and humility of the person who solves them. Because then Elisabeth would always be number 1. Boredom!

Jorg, I did not make myself clear obviously as I meant to refer just to those complaining of this particular puzzle. Oh dear I seem to be getting it wrong; you will have to put it down to old age!!!

Thanks for your comments, everyone.

I will continue to give priority to the views of subscribers, as anyone running a similar site would, but I also want all users to enjoy their visit so will still read and think about comments from all users. But overall I am happy that the balance is reasonable, given the site has run for 15 years and vsrawat is the first user in that time to repeatedly complain about the free content.

I don't think the site is perfect, but I would politely request that any discussion remains civil and respectful.

vsrawat - I feel that your reply was needlessly offensive. It seems to me deeply ironic that the things you accused others of doing you then went ahead and did yourself. I have removed these parts of your comment since in my opinion they served no useful purpose.

It was a very easy puzzle but the challenge is (a) to do it correctly first time with no help and (b) do it faster than the crowd. I was pleased to do this one with no aids but my time makes me number 132 in the order of merit. Must try harder!

Key

  • A yellow/light blue highlight in the time distribution charts highlights your time, where relevant.
  • Rating scores out of 10.0 show the average difficulty rating chosen by users, where 1.0 is "Easy" and 10.0 is "Hard".
  • If a puzzle is opened more than once, including by loading from a saved position, then this is potentially a significant aid so it is listed as being completed with 'multiple sessions' for the purpose of the best time/average rating displays above.
  • Minor aid is defined as no more than one use of 'Check solution' when incomplete and/or no more than one use of 'Check solution' when wrong; and/or using highlighting aids (show repeated digits, show broken inequalities and show valid/invalid placements [slitherlink] only). Major aid is any and all other use of the solving aids except for 'show wrong'.
