There seems to be a least one viable alternative solution. Am I wrong?
[The middle "3" on the left can extend one square to the left and one square up (instead of two squares up), the "5" then can form a solid "q" rather than a 45 degree "m".]

Hi SlowBurn,

No, because to form a 'Q' shape you'd have to have 6 squares in the 5 region. Otherwise (a) you can't form a Q in the first place, and (b) you would have at least one 2x2 area fully shaded. So I suspect (from what you say) you had 6 squares in your 5 area.

Although the nurikabe on puzzlemix are completely handmade, I did write a solver for them many years ago which I use to check them - so I would be surprised if any of them had multiple solutions simply because it has been tested repeatedly for a loooooong time.

I guess this Q was shaped like a 2x2 and then another square was added in the south east of that. But that would look like a Q, but it wouln't be a connected area (diagonal doesn't count).

You are right! Thanks, Gareth. I think my high temperature is making me loose the ability to count properly ;).
Much appreciated. I am cool ... really.

Key

  • A yellow/light blue highlight in the time distribution charts highlights your time, where relevant.
  • Rating scores out of 10.0 show the average difficulty rating chosen by users, where 1.0 is "Easy" and 10.0 is "Hard".
  • If a puzzle is opened more than once, including by loading from a saved position, then this is potentially a significant aid so it is listed as being completed with 'multiple sessions' for the purpose of the best time/average rating displays above.
  • Minor aid is defined as no more than one use of 'Check solution' when incomplete and/or no more than one use of 'Check solution' when wrong; and/or using highlighting aids (show repeated digits, show broken inequalities and show valid/invalid placements [slitherlink] only). Major aid is any and all other use of the solving aids except for 'show wrong'.
