They're all easy if you use show wrong moves!

It is a good idea. Should those who use "show wrong moves"... have the option to rate the difficulty of the puzzle? It is to think about it... truth Mr. Gareth Moore?

My 2 cents (I haven't done this puzzle yet, maybe tonight):
1) All these statistics features (rating and time scores) have one disadvantage - they can be manipulated. Sometimes I see people ranking on first place in the left column with a time that I would need to just fill out the squares.
It is possible (I don't say here that anyone with fast times does it) to do a puzzle when not logged in, log in later and just put in the soultions in a very short time. Or just to solve it again helps to be faster the next time - even when you are not aware of it.
Based on the assumption that most players don't "cheat" the average in the end is still a fair statement about the difficulty of a puzzle.
If there was something like a score/a total score for your puzzle activity here that 'cheating' would be happening way more.
2) You are right that he used "show wrong moves" - but if you look at his/her finishing time, my suggestion is that it is used to prevent what I run sometimes into: You get stuck or get a contradiction. Then there are two options: You use 'z' to go back to the beginning and start over or you try to figure out what is wrong. If you are lucky that works, because you didn't make the mistake at the very beginning. To use "show wrong" is a method to see how far you have to get back (I know that once I had to go back almost to the start...). If you do that and see that you made a "stupid" mistake and then get through without using "show wrong" again, it is still fair to rate it easy.
Another way would be to turn on "show wrong" at the beginning. And rate it easy if you never entered a wrong number while solving it. If you constantly run into wrong numbers it must be a hard one.

So my suggestion is: leave rating open for people who use "show wrong moves";
And: If someone turns it on and never types in a wrong number until the very end and doesn't use any other help, then this person should still be listed in the left column, because this option wasn't used even while turned on (but maybe that's already the case?).

I thought there were one or two places here which needed careful thought, so rated it moderate (and was quite pleased with my result!!!)
The question of with/without aids keeps cropping up, but I think there is no perfect system and this one works most of the time!
P.S. Have you finished the puzzle yet, carlotes?:)

Hellow, Elisabeth I could not finish it. I did something wrong. I think that at some point I type a wrong number. I would have wanted to put 'x' and type 'and'. If I had used the option "..." I would have done it without great difficulty, but I would have not appeared in the first column. The truth is that a failure of this nature does not affect for anything to set up the difficulty of the puzzle. In the end, anyways, I am in favor of using "show..." prevents the possibility of defining the difficulty of the puzzle.I'll try to do it again, I don't know when, but I will not use any assistance. And my rating will be as if I had done it for the first time. A hug, Elisabeth.

P.D.I hope that I understood. I'm using the help of Google translate!

'and' = 'z' "..." = "show wrong moves" "show... " ="show wrong moves"

I get the gist, carlotes, keep going with your English!! Yes, I agree using "show wrong" can either be used just as a safeguard but can also be used so that one can guess wildly until the right number comes up, which I have to admit I've done from time to time when I've been frustrated by a puzzle and feel I'm getting my own back by misusing the system, in which case I don't rate the puzzle!!!
Thanks for the hug:)

And I'm just jealous because a) I got really stuck and couldn't finish the puzzle and b) show wrong moves isn't available on my tablet. If I'm really stuck I have to use "check" and try to work out which number is wrong. The tablet also doesn't allow me to check my answer even once when wrong without putting me in the second column.

Key

  • A yellow/light blue highlight in the time distribution charts highlights your time, where relevant.
  • Rating scores out of 10.0 show the average difficulty rating chosen by users, where 1.0 is "Easy" and 10.0 is "Hard".
  • If a puzzle is opened more than once, including by loading from a saved position, then this is potentially a significant aid so it is listed as being completed with 'multiple sessions' for the purpose of the best time/average rating displays above.
  • Minor aid is defined as no more than one use of 'Check solution' when incomplete and/or no more than one use of 'Check solution' when wrong; and/or using highlighting aids (show repeated digits, show broken inequalities and show valid/invalid placements [slitherlink] only). Major aid is any and all other use of the solving aids except for 'show wrong'.
