When a puzzle suddenly disappears for no apparent reason and I try to get it back a message pops up saying, "You already have this puzzle open." But how do you get it back? I've never succeeded.

The message appears if the browser says the window is still open, so if you don't see it then the browser must have moved the window off-screen, or behind something else. Try ALT+TAB to find your open windows, on most operating systems.
Thanks Gareth, but I mostly do the puzzles on my tablet and that isn't an option. I'll certainly try it on my laptop.

Sounds like a browser bug, if it has definitely closed the tab. To make the link work again, just refresh the puzzle menu page - this will reset the Javascript code which keeps track of the player window.
I think that quite often, because the touch screen is so sensitive, I cause the problem myself my hovering over something. I often accidentally touch "check" for example.

Key
A yellow/light blue highlight in the time distribution charts highlights your time, where relevant.
Rating scores out of 10.0 show the average difficulty rating chosen by users, where 1.0 is "Easy" and 10.0 is "Hard".
If a puzzle is opened more than once, including by loading from a saved position, then this is potentially a significant aid so it is listed as being completed with 'multiple sessions' for the purpose of the best time/average rating displays above.
Minor aid is defined as no more than one use of 'Check solution' when incomplete and/or no more than one use of 'Check solution' when wrong; and/or using highlighting aids (show repeated digits, show broken inequalities and show valid/invalid placements [slitherlink] only). Major aid is any and all other use of the solving aids except for 'show wrong'.
Hope this helps!
