I took ages getting a foothold here and was determined not to 'try and see'. Did I miss something obvious? I did all the usual things with 234 only, where could 579 go? where 1s couldn't etc. but eventually reduced down to one possibility and then the rest followed quite easily.Perhaps one of those who said puzzle was easy(see yesterday's discussion) could give me a hint??. We are consecutive (at present ) again Penelope and Carlotes!!:)

Hi Elisabeth, I'm also looking for a clue to solve this puzzle, but can not find. So I write all possible numbers and then I'm discarding. And so it takes me a long time. S.O.S. all who qualify "easy" to tell us the secret.

I've tried again and in 3x3 cell middle right I found 3 squares which had to be only 234 and this led me more quickly to the result. Have you found any others,Carlotes? First time I too was filling in every possible number, concentrating on middle 3x3 cell realised 1 and 9 were restricted which helped, so were 5 and 7 but couldn't actually fix any number.

Hi mates, for me the key is start for the middle-right quadrant. It's easy to find what are the three numbers for the middle column.

Sorry for my english

Thanks Mocky. But my problem does not refer to this "Kropky" in particular, but to all "Kropkys". I can not find a bleat criterion. But I keep trying and maybe someday I'll stay ahead of Elisabeth. Ah! My English is not perfect, far from it, I use the translator, but often have to correct the translator because I do not say it mean.

I find all kropkis difficult too. I usually use the "try every number and eliminate" method but in this one it fell into place when I realised that the 1s could only fit in certain places. I hope this makes sense. Carlotes and Mocky- your English is fine!

What I'm seeing is 16 Carlotes, 17 Penelope, 18 Elisabeth. But I'm not sure. Perhaps Dr Gareth has any explanation ...

I always look for the 234 because if you have a consecutive symbol with a double/halve symbol either side then the numbers must be 3 with 2 or 4 and a 6 at one or other end depending on which is the 3; so the middle right 3x3 can be filled in fairly quickly, as 3 cells have to be the 234 and even if you put 156789 in all the other squares and eliminate, you then get the middle column mocky referred to, and the right-hand column a 7 with 68 either side and so on.....
I also look where 1s can go, as Penelope suggests, particularly since it can only go to 2, and 2 is both consecutive and double 1; also I look for the 9s which are often limited as to where they can go.

For the rankings, Carlotes I think the three of us are fairly level pegging as each of us takes a turn at being first and last!:)
What an unexpected way to learn English; keep going both of you!

Key

  • A yellow/light blue highlight in the time distribution charts highlights your time, where relevant.
  • Rating scores out of 10.0 show the average difficulty rating chosen by users, where 1.0 is "Easy" and 10.0 is "Hard".
  • If a puzzle is opened more than once, including by loading from a saved position, then this is potentially a significant aid so it is listed as being completed with 'multiple sessions' for the purpose of the best time/average rating displays above.
  • Minor aid is defined as no more than one use of 'Check solution' when incomplete and/or no more than one use of 'Check solution' when wrong; and/or using highlighting aids (show repeated digits, show broken inequalities and show valid/invalid placements [slitherlink] only). Major aid is any and all other use of the solving aids except for 'show wrong'.
