Really stuck on this one for the first time in a while. Had to use hypotheses rather than pure logic at one stage. Nice puzzle, thank you.

I couldn't solve this with logic: had to use trial and error. If you did manage with logic alone, please tell me how! Thanks

I can place three 5s, three 4s, and two 3s relatively easily (let me know if you want explanation of how to get this far!)

Then, where's the 1 on the bottom row? If it's in front of the 4 clue, that column goes 1 3 2 as we work up, which means row 3 goes 1 5 3.

If it's in the middle of the bottom row, then the 5 must be immediately above it, and so the second number in row 3 is still a 5.

And since the only possibilities for the second number in row 3 are 1 and 5, that means that this spot is a 5.

The rest of the solve is pretty straightforward from there, I think?

There are probably some other logic paths that give the same conclusion, that the second number in row 3 must be a 5.

Just looked at the comments here, and I redid this one to figure out the trick. Took me a while (and I think I did trial and error when I first solved it, too).

Do as far as joshuazucker said in his first sentence. Then eliminate all but one 3 in column 2, using the 3 clue at row 4.

Key

  • A yellow/light blue highlight in the time distribution charts highlights your time, where relevant.
  • Rating scores out of 10.0 show the average difficulty rating chosen by users, where 1.0 is "Easy" and 10.0 is "Hard".
  • If a puzzle is opened more than once, including by loading from a saved position, then this is potentially a significant aid so it is listed as being completed with 'multiple sessions' for the purpose of the best time/average rating displays above.
  • Minor aid is defined as no more than one use of 'Check solution' when incomplete and/or no more than one use of 'Check solution' when wrong; and/or using highlighting aids (show repeated digits, show broken inequalities and show valid/invalid placements [slitherlink] only). Major aid is any and all other use of the solving aids except for 'show wrong'.
